This small municipality-administered village is within the province of Andalusia. This village’s origins date back to the 6th Century. Although this is a small village with a population of only about 23,000 inhabitants, its fame has spread far and wide. This village is located on the top of a hill overlooking the Bay of Algeciras.
The place is known for its most spectacular natural beauty. The most important point is that it is located at a place which appears as though it is between two continents. The most spectacular views in this village are of the beach down below and the landscape as seen from the top of the hill; it is certainly a pleasure to see the wonders of nature in this place.
Beach: Undoubtedly the white sand beach is always the first choice among the tourists. It is dotted with most luxurious villas. With several facilities for a variety of water sports, the beach is always the busiest place, crowded with tourists and water sports enthusiasts.
Golf: San Roque is one of the most popular places for playing golf. In fact it is famous for its golf courses. There are as many as six golf courses in this small village. These courses are very well maintained. As a matter of fact, the golf courses have enhanced the beauty of the places around it.
Los Barrios
This is another village neighboring San Roque with about the same number of inhabitants. This village is also municipal-administered and is located within the province of Andalusia. History says that people from Gibraltar moved to this place during the famous Gibraltar war and they settled down here. The village has many eucalyptus trees. There are also cork and olive trees. The place is very near the beach and it is also near Algeciras and is very accessible by land travel. There are many caves which are of historical significance. Some of the caves have been explored and stunning painting works have been discovered there. Just look at the buildings in the twilight; the sight of these white painted buildings is stunningly beautiful. The tourist will be amazed by their beauty.
These two villages can be easily reached by road. They are most ideal for tourists who want to spend their time surrounded by nature; with mountain ranges and the sea; tourists have many opportunities to spend their time enjoyably. Needless to say, there are many villas available so that the tourists can have a comfortable stay.
